My Girl

This sweet baby girl had her very first birthday party planned for this past weekend.  I was so excited to  watch her have a special day.  We rented a bounce house, and it rained cats and dogs.  But we are surrounded by such amazing friends, who crowded in my house and spoiled her with more pink gift bags than I even imagined.  It was a little too crazy for me to be distracted with taking many pictures but this was taken right after her party.  This is her right after her party, checking herself out with her new clip-on earring and crown.

My friend and I are planning her 4 year old session, this will be the first time another photographer gets a go at her, and it will give me a chance to get in the pictures with her!  I am beyond excited about that.

Ellie, I love you everyday.

Health, Happienes, and Daughters!

Ellie's 4 year checkup

My crazy girl had her 4 year old check up, and measured in at 32 lbs, and 40 1/2 inches.  Which is amazing, cause she is in the 25% for weight, and 50% for height.  She had huge growth this year, and is right on track with where Carter is, even though last year she was teensy tiny.  :) I love this child.

Lucky for me, we woke up UBER early to take my husbando to the airport, and were playing out back while the sun was rising (in our pajamas, don't judge.)  This is one of those photos that just happened, (after bribing her with chocolate to put down all of her snails) she held still for just a second, and SNAP.  Gotcha Dolly!
Health, Happiness, and Sunrises,

Just Some Sentences

In this house, Christmas presents that come from the mainland are exempt from the "must wait until Christmas" rule.  Unless of course the present is for the kids, then they wait.
There are a few things about my kids that I never want to forget, like how Carter empties his piggy bank to donate to the Philippines, and Ellie refuses to pick out a candy while Carter is in school without getting him one.
A few weeks ago Ellie told my MIL that she wanted a Blue Stuffed Bunny for her birthday.  Guess what came in the mail today?  How lucky is she to have people who will go on wild goose chases for the perfect gift?
I have exactly seven days until "stay-cation." I plan on wearing lots of comfy clothes, but that isn't really different than any other day.
I made mention to my dad that I miss Cleveland radio, so he got me about 20 Oldies CDs for Xmas.  I know this, cause I opened it already.  I am a total rebel.
I spent half of the night updating my portfolio, and I couldn't be happier with how much I have grown in 2013.
I think 30 was the best year of my life.  It was certainly the healthiest.  I don't think that is a coincidence.
Living in Hawaii is amazing, but it isn't very festive.
I had Ellie's teacher-conference, and just as I suspected, she is perfect.  ;)

13 days 'til Christmas!

I. Am. So. Excited!  In a few days we will be having Ellie's birthday party (her first real party ever!)  and then after that it will be CHRISTMAS!  Squea!

Elf on the Shelf.

Who am I to not hop on that bandwagon?
The kids named him Rocky.  He is a very mischievous elf.

Can we just talk about how my girl grabbed my cell phone and started snapping pictures?
Like mother, like daughter.

What I want my daughter to know about working out:

I read this, this morning and it nailed it.
  1. Strength equals self-sufficiency.  Being strong – particularly as a woman – is empowering.  It will feel good someday to be able to carry your own luggage down the stairs if the airport escalator is broken, and it will be important to have a solid shot at outrunning a stranger should you meet one a dark alley.
  1. Fitness opens doors.  Being healthy and fit can help you see the world differently.  The planet looks different from a bike or a pair of skis than it does from a car or an airplane.  Out in the elements you have the time and space to notice details and meet people and remember smells and bugs and mud and rain and the feeling of warm sunshine on your face.  And those are the moments that make up your life.
  1. The bike is the new golf course.  Being fit may help you get a seat at the table.  Networking is no longer restricted to the golf course, and the stronger you are – and the more people you can hang with on the road and trail – the more people you’ll meet.
  1. Exercise is a lifestyle, not an event.  Being an active person isn’t about taking a class three times a week at the gym.  It’s about things like biking to the grocery store and parking your car in the back of the lot and walking instead of taking a cab and catching up with friends on a hiking trail instead of a bar stool.
  1. Health begets health.  Healthy behavior inspires healthy behavior.  Exercise.  Healthy eating.  Solid sleep.  Positive relationships.  These things are all related.
  1. Endorphins help you cope.  A good sweat session can clear the slate.  You will have days when nothing seems to go right…when you’re dizzy with frustration or crying in despair.  A workout can often turn things around.
  1. Working out signals hard-working.  The discipline required to work out on a regular basis signals success.  Someone recently told me they are way more likely to hire marathon runners and mountain climbers because of the level of commitment that goes into those pursuits.
  1. If you feel beautiful, you look beautiful.  Looking beautiful starts on the inside.  And being fit and strong feels beautiful.
  1. Nature rules.  And if you’re able to hike/run/bike/swim/ski/snowshoe, you can see more of it.
  1. Little eyes are always watching.  We learn from each other.  You may have a daughter—or a niece or a neighbor or a friend – one day.  And that little girl will be watching and listening to everything she you say and do.  What messages do you want her to hear?

The Office

I can not tell you how many times I stop and stand in awe at how lucky I am.
During my workouts, my work, or just my daily activities- all I can think is, how did I get so lucky?

Exactly one year ago today this sweet girl came home to me.  I REALLY didn't want a dog, but like so many times in my life, I have no idea what I really need.

I stumbled across these old pics the other day.
I really need them on canvas.  I couldn't love these three anymore.

Dear Carter and Ellie,
Please forget the times that I act like an overwhelmed mom, and remember the times I encouraged you to dance in the rain.
I love you every day.
